Horsing Around

Megan competed in her first horse show this past weekend. She was entered in the American Royal Quarter Horse Show. She competed in the Stick Horse class. This class is open to children five years old and under. Meg was so excited to be competing this year. She has been practicing in our driveway for months. Well, yesterday was the big day. Normally, the stick horse class is late in the afternoon, but this year they had it right after lunch. There were three girls in the class this year. Mark brought Meg up to the horse horse (mom was already there volunteering) just in time for her class. We had been telling her all morning that she was going to ride her stick horse today and boy was she excited.

Finally her class was called. The two older girls went right into the arena. Megan got to the gate and froze. I was right here encouraging her on. Suddenly Meg burst into tears. I tried to figure out what was making Meg so upset. It turned out that Megan thought that a stick horse was a real horse and she wanted to ride a real horse in the arena. This kid has no fear. After a few moments, I was able to get her in the arena. Boy did she love it!! She trotted her stick horse around and turned when the judges asked her too. She even lined up with the other girls at the end of the class. Megan got a huge purple ribbon, almost as tall as she is!! She was so proud of her ribbon that she wouldn't let go of it for a while. Now to find a real horse for her to ride.

Here is Megan having just entered the arena. She had trouble keeping her hat on because it's a little big for her.

Here she is riding in front of the judges.

This is a picture of all three girls "trotting" their stick horses.

The final line up with Mom helping Megan.

Meg was so proud. Mom and Dad are really proud of her too.
